Benefits of Having a Fiber Kind of Diet
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on June 25th, 2010
Diet and medical experts have long recommended a diet that contains high amounts of fiber. It is quite surprising how many people are still fond of other means in sustaining weight loss when a fiber diet definitely tops others in terms of benefits. Probably, their faithless behavior for this diet is due to their lack of information on how it would particularly result in weight loss.
What is fiber? Fiber is that part of the plant that are indigestible when it passes the digestive tract. It is known to be categorized into two types: the soluble and insoluble fiber. The soluble fiber is fermented along the digestive walls releasing substances that can produce short-chain fatty acids. This kind of acid is beneficial for the production of T-cells, normalizing the levels of glucose in the blood, lessening cholesterol and enhancing the growth of beneficial bacteria in the colon area. Such fiber is said to lessen the risk of an individual to acquire cancer but this statement is yet to be proven through clinical studies.
The other form of fiber is the insoluble one which passes through the digestive tract largely without breaking down. It traps water which could lessen one’s problem with water weight and aid it can also aid in better digestion.
Unlike fad diets offered through weight loss products or mere practice of starvation, a high fiber diet results a long term solution for weight loss. In the case of the former, it is more likely that the weight that was lost during dieting would eventually be regained when dieter returns to their normal eating practice.
People with constipation may well benefit from a high fiber diet. It is also a fact that the diabetics and those who suffer from high cholesterol can ease their condition in this diet. So if you’re interested with this diet there is a list provided below of foods that are great sources for fiber.
For the soluble fiber source it is found mainly on legumes such as peas, soybeans and all other kinds of beans, oats, rye and barley, and psyllium seed husk. It is also present among fruits and fruit juices such as prunes, plums, berries and bananas. In case of vegetables, it is contained in high concentration among broccoli and carrots, and also root vegetables such as potatoes and onions.
The insoluble fiber sources are whole grains, nuts and seeds, potato skins, flax seeds, lignans, vegetables such as green beans, cauliflower and celery.
Of course everything that comes in excess can cause trouble. In the case of fiber consumption, too much of it can induce the same effects that a laxative can bring.
One misconception about fiber is that some people believe that it binds to vitamins and minerals but since there were evidence that fermentable or the soluble kinds of fiber can actually improve the process of absorption of important vitamins and minerals such as calcium, zinc, vitamin C and magnesium.
Actually living with a high fiber diet is the easiest diet to follow it would not require tight restriction on the volume and quantity one would want to consume.
The Calorie Shifting Diet - Lose a Shocking Amount of Weight Quickly and Effectively
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on April 15th, 2010
Losing a substantial amount of weight in a short period of time can seem like an impossible task. Under normal circumstances it is very hard. But with a new dieting technique called calorie shifting, not only is is possible but it’s simple to do as well. The diet focuses on altering your eating patterns in order to confuse your body into boosting it’s metabolism.
Here’s a quick word about diets that focus on calorie restriction. When people think of “restriction”, they think that they have to starve themselves. Starving yourself will actually have an adverse effect on your metabolism. Your body will begin preparing for the impending starvation that it believes is coming and slow your metabolism down to conserve energy. That’s why most modern diets, including calorie shifting, call for a grazing routine, or the routine of eating 4-6 meals per day. If you are constantly eating throughout the day, your body won’t think you are starving and in turn will actually raise it’s metabolism in order to perform the extra work of digestion.
During calorie shifting, a good starting point would be to try cutting out about 500 calories per day from your normal diet. You won’t really need to eat anything different, but you will need to follow some simple steps to make sure it works. For one thing, you’ll need to do things like eat a small meal followed by a large meal, then switch the order up each day of the week to keep your body confused. This is the basic concept of calorie shifting, and it is quite effective.
Easy Diets - Diets So Easy You Can Do It!
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on August 27th, 2009
There are many people who want to lose weight; the problem is that many diets look so difficult. Some diets require you to count points, some ask you to avoid your favorite foods altogether and there are others that have you counting every single calorie you eat. If you have a busy lifestyle, many of the diets out there just don’t fit into your life. However, there are some easy diets out there that are so easy that you can fit them into your life. Here is a look at several of the easy diets available that you can use to lose those extra pounds.
The Half Diet
One of the easy diets you may want to try out is known as the Half Diet. This diet is based around the fact that most Americans today eat double the amount of calories that they should be eating. This is one reason so many people end up dealing with obesity. The principle of this diet is very simple. You start by eating only half the amount you would normally eat. If you usually eat two sandwiches for lunch, cut back to eating one. Do you eat seconds for dinner? Cut back to eating one portion. Do you snack on a whole bowl of chips while watching television? Then cut back to half a bowl or less. All you do is cut in half the amount of food you eat. This is a diet that is easy for anyone and it really works too.
The Fiber Diet
Another of the easy diets to try is the Fiber Diet. Most people today don’t realize how important fiber is. It helps with digestion and also makes you feel fuller when you eat. Diets that are high in fiber can help you to lose weight, but for the most part people don’t even eat half the fiber they should each day. This diet is based on adding more fiber to your diet and getting the recommended 35 grams of fiber that you should each day. Good sources of fiber include vegetables, fruits, beans, and whole grains. You can also take supplements of fiber if you don’t think you can eat it all.
The Replacement Diet
Last of all is the Replacement Diet. Once again this diet is based on the fact that most people eat more calories than they should. Many people eat better than 1000 calories in one meal. Some people think that if they skip meals they can lose weight, but this is not healthy and won’t provide you with long term results. This diet focuses on replacing two of your meals with a meal alternative that is lower calorie, ad then you can eat a regular third meal. The goal of a “replacement meal” is to make sure it is less than 500 calories. This is easy to do. Consider having a salad and soup, cereal and skim milk, or even some toast and fresh fruit.
Easy diets are out there. You can lose weight without having to drastically change your lifestyle. Even if you are a busy person, with one of these diets, you can easily make some changes and lose that weight for good.
