Mediterranean Diet
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on June 26th, 2010
The Mediterranean Diet is not really a diet it is more about different eating habits. It traditionally comes from the people in the Mediterranean whom are living longer and with fewer diseases then anywhere else in the world. The main focus is on many plant based food like fruits and vegetables and also on whole grains and beans, fish and shellfish, olive oil or canola oil, and red wine.
The benefits of this way of eating is that it helps to reduce heart disease by lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, prevents many cancers, helps in controlling diabetes, and is important in maintaining weight just to name a few. In addition, it is important to reduce stress and to exercise as this is also a big part of the lives of the people in the Mediterranean (they virtually walk everywhere).
The majority of the food eaten should be whole grains and beans/legumes, around 9 servings of fruits and vegetables, olive or canola oil, nuts/seeds, herbs and spices, red wine (in moderation), and fish and shellfish everyday. Try to eat a variety of foods within these categories and go for a wide range of colors.
The things that are typically not in the plan are very little or no red meats and processed foods. It is also very limited in the amount of dairy, sweets, saturated fats, and trans fats that are eaten. As far as diets and/or eating plans go this one appears to be realistic and doable.
Low Carbohydrate Dieting
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on May 11th, 2010
Low Carbohydrate Dieting has become popular with many people since the release of the Atkins’ diet. People are looking for a fast easy way to lose weight for medical reasons, or just to lose a couple of pounds to feel better.
There are many different diets out there, some good, and some not so good in the long term for the health of your body. If you follow the diets you will lose weight, generally though, most people have a day where they cannot stick to it and then they may feel as though they have failed. However if you can get back on track the next day and stick to your diet you will have success, it is part of your journey to permanent weight loss.
Diets that are easy to follow generally give you the most success at weight loss, and Low Carbohydrate Diets are easy to follow. All you need to do is avoid potatoes, bread, pasta, rice, and sugar.
Many people do not like Low Carbohydrate Diets because they get their calories from dairy, meat and other high fat foods and in the long term this can lead to high cholesterol and heart disease. So medical advice should be obtained before starting the diet. Also, in the long term it may be difficult to stick to the diet because of the instructions:
The instructions of not being able to east pasta, toast, pizza, burger in buns, potatoes, sauce, sandwiches, and alcohol will eventually case you to break the diet. But Alcohol is restricted on all diets due to the high calories and not having much nutritional value.
If you enjoy meat, the diet may suit you, and people who don not like meat will find the diet inappropriate but the diet is still popular with many people. You need to find a diet that is right for you and the Low Carbohydrate Diets work for some people quite well.
However we recommend a diet that includes complex carbohydrates. A balanced eating plan is better than low carbohydrates. It is a good idea to eliminate processed carbohydrates as it is these that put the weight on.

Understanding Acai Berry Juice Products
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on June 29th, 2009
The acai berry is sold in various different forms outside its native geographical region of the Amazonian rainforest. This berry is highly perishable and that is the reason it cannot be sold in its original form. It has a short shelf life of merely a day, and it needs to be processed within this period. The acai? juice is the commonest way in which it is processed.
?
The acai juice is just what its name indicates - it is a juice that contains mainly the juice of acai berries. But since the taste of this berry can be quite strong for some people, this juice is mixed with juices of some other fruits. There are pure acai juices available too; however, people consume those for its nutritional value more than anything else.
?
The nutritionally rich acai berry juices actually don’t need any other substances added, except maybe the pure juice of some other fruit. The acai berry is naturally sweet. Hence, most of these juices don’t even add sugar. However, the slightly sharp taste can be disagreeable to a few people. The acai berry taste needs some getting used to. Hence, even people who find the juice disagreeable at first start liking its taste later on.
?
The main reason why the acai juice has become popular in current times is because there has been a lot of research on its health benefits. The berries are proved to be very potent in helping people with weight loss and maintaining their cholesterol levels. They also help in reducing aging signs in people and help them to improve their visual health and mental deficiencies. The berry has shown itself useful in boosting male libido also. With all these benefits, it is quite understandable why the acai berry juice has become so popular over the Internet in present times.
?
Different manufacturers recommend different dosages of the acai berry juice for the desired benefits. If the juice is pure acai, a shot glass is the right measure to take. But if the juice is mixed with other fruit juices, then the recommended amount to be taken is a full glass.
