Is the 1200 Calorie Diet Safe For You? Things You Have to Know!
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on June 30th, 2010
There are a lot of people dieting these days. I see that people are taking it to extreme levels. One of those extreme methods is called the 1200 calorie diet. This means you are eating a maximum of 1200 calories a day. In this article I will give you some information about what this can mean to your health. This study is backed up by big health centers throughout the world.
Your Body Needs Fuel.
The 1200 calorie diet is 50% of what your body needs to function properly every day. Your body needs about 2000 calories everyday to keep the vital body functions running. So if you eat less than that, your body is going to look for alternatives to keep it running. This is done by burning fat. But your body has to burn so much fat and your heart will become much weaker because now it has to burn the fat first before it can use the energy for your body.
The 1200 Calorie Diet Myth!
People who follow this method of dieting lose a lot of weight very fast in a very short amount of time. There is one problem with this method. Your body is losing the fat out of necessity. So if you start eating normal again you will gain the fat back even faster and probably you will be heavier than before you started with dieting.
My advice is not to start using the 1200 calorie diet, because this can result in permanent body damage. There are a lot of different ways to train your body. Fitness is proven to be the best method out there.
Why People Quit the Atkins Diet
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on April 05th, 2010
Many people have tried the Atkins diet (aka, the low carb diet), but have not been able to stick with it and over time, gain their weight back. There are several reasons for this. Personally, I have probably started and stopped this diet at least two dozen times. About one-fourth of those were serious starts that lasted at least one month. About three or four of those lasted at least 3 months, and at least twice have lasted more than 6 months. First, let’s look at why this diet failed me two dozen times.
The first reason for failure is not having a plan beyond the induction phase. The induction phase is the first 2 weeks of the diet where you control your carbohydrate intake to about 20 grams of carbs or less per day. You find yourself eating a lot of eggs, meat, and cheese. Most people get bored with this and bail on the diet. Most people don’t know what to do after the induction, so they bail.
The second reason is contained with the first reason. There is little to no variety in their diet. There is a reason why some people have called this the “meat and cheese” diet. It’s because they don’t know how to get beyond this and add real variety to their diet. They see all the options and things they are missing, and quit.
The third reason is they are not exercising. Without exercise, you will hit a wall where you just can’t lose weight. You will also find yourself fatigued and feeling weak. This weak feeling makes you not want to continue, so you go back to the old way of doing things.
The fourth reason for people quitting the Atkins diet is that they are not drinking enough water. Water helps flush things out and cleanse your body. You’ll need this as your body burns off the fat. Rather than water, they are still drinking a lot of caffeine in soda, coffee, and tea. You can have these things, but it’s best to use less and drink more water.
One final reason is that most people never visit their doctor. This is especially important to do before you diet. Many doctors, in my opinion, are not well informed about the Atkins diet because they only see it as it is during the induction phase, and not throughout the whole diet. Tell your doctor you want lab work before you begin a low carbohydrate diet. Then, get more lab work down approximately one month later to see how far you’ve come. Then, you might want to try it again three months later, and then six months later.
By visiting your doctor, he or she will be there to give you advice and will know what you are doing. Getting your lab work done will also give you an inside look at the progress you are making. You will need more than a scale to measure your progress. When you go 5-7 days without losing a pound, you need to know there are other factors at stake, and just because your weight didn’t go down, many other important numbers may be going down too.
Is it worth it to stick with the Atkins diet? If you’re going to do it, consider the reasons above, and do the opposite. You may find that it is easier to stick with than you think and that it’s not just a diet, but that low carbohydrate living is a fantastic way of life.
Low GI Diet - High Weight Loss
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on August 26th, 2009
Most people know that food serves as a source of energy for the body. Nearly all foods metabolize into some form of energy. Many foods metabolize into glucose - a sugar that the body uses for fuel, and some foods metabolize faster than others. Carbohydrates (carbs) contain glucose and, as the body breaks them down for energy, the glucose in carbohydrates enters the bloodstream. Complex carbohydrates, take longer to digest and do not metabolize into glucose as quickly as simple carbohydrates which digest very quickly and flood the bloodstream with glucose. For several reasons, it is important to understand how carbohydrates affect the body and how to manage carbohydrate intake to your body’s advantage.
Far too many people eat foods that the body does not need or they eat the wrong foods; foods that are highly processed and have little nutritional value. The body works to digest these foods and then dumps the fuel into the blood. If there is more fuel than the body currently needs, then the excess fuel is stored as body fat for later use or must be flushed from the body. Carbohydrates that flood the bloodstream with glucose cause problems for the body as it tries to regulate the massive influx of sugars that it doesn’t need. Stored glucose causes weight gain and type 2 diabetes can be the result of too much sugar and an overworked pancreas.
Rather than creating these problems for the body, it makes sense to eat the foods that the body needs to function properly. The Glycemic Index (GI) is an easy way to identify how foods affect blood glucose levels. Foods are rated on a scale of 0-100 with those that are ranked higher having the most immediate effect on blood glucose levels. There are times that higher glucose levels are desired. Athletes want an immediate influx of energy and would consume high GI foods to ensure enough energy to perform. However, unless you are a marathon runner, you don’t want more glucose from your food than your body can use.
Following a low GI diet can help you lose weight as well as reduce your risk of heart attack, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. Several of the most popular diet programs being used today are based on the Glycemic Index and numerous studies have linked it with reduced cholesterol and a host of other health benefits. Low GI foods are high in soluble fiber which, in addition to helping reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol, helps dieters feel full longer.
One of the benefits of the Low GI diet is that no foods are excluded. The Glycemic Index ranks a wide variety of foods and more are being added as they are evaluated. The Low GI diet advocates consuming the right foods at the right time and in the right quantities to ensure a steady energy level and healthful eating. This makes this less of a diet and more of a healthy eating plan.
Low GI foods (a rating of 55 or less) such as fruits and vegetables, multi-grain breads and cereals, beans and lentils, and milk and cheese are called smart carbs. These foods are naturally low in saturated fat and high in fiber. Other foods, such as lean red meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and nuts, don’t have a GI ranking but are encouraged on the GI eating plan because they are high in protein, low in saturated fat, and are healthy additions to a healthy lifestyle, adding such nutrients as iron, omega-3 fatty acids, calcium and lean protein. Begin your healthy eating plan using the Glycemic Index as soon as possible for maximum lifelong benefits.
Turbulence Training Results and Testimonials
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on August 06th, 2009
Turbulence Training is one of the most popular weight loss and fitness programs in the world today. But does it really work? Before we answer that question, here are some details regarding this program: It was created by Craig Ballantyne, an expert trainer and fitness guide and writer for various magazines. Turbulence Training, as it’s name signifies, is based on intensive but short workouts aimed at burning the most calories and fat in the shortest time possible.
Even though this program enjoys positive reviews from laymen and experts alike, the best way to know if something works is to read real users’ results and testimonials. This is what this article is about.
As it so happens, Craig Ballantyne himself made it easy for us to see first hand results of his program by establishing a contest to see who would have the best results. The winning contestants details were posted online with pictures and all, so we can read their accomplishments and see pictures as well. In this article, I’ll relate just a sample of all the results that I’ve read.
Turbulence Training Results and Testimonials - a Sample
1. The winner of the contest Craig Ballantyne opened is a woman who lost an impressive 15.5 pounds and over 5% of body fat. I’ve seen her picture. It is truly a transformation.
2. But no. 2 impressed me even more since this guy lost over 30 pounds in under 3 months which is incredible. If we take into account that he added muscle weight as well, it means that his weight loss was in large part pure fat.
3. There was another guy who didn’t finish in the top 3 (don’t ask me why) who lost over 80 pounds. Talk about results.
I won’t bore you with all the other testimonials. Just remember that this program requires hard work, but the results are worth it in my opinion. You not only gain a new body, but also a much healthier one.
The World's Best Diet - 3 Steps That Make Calorie Shifting #1
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on July 31st, 2009
Hands down, the world’s best diet is “calorie shifting.” This is a diet with a powerful focus on boosting your metabolism. I have distilled it for you, into 3 easy steps, which I have personally followed to lose 65 pounds in just 4 short months! Hopefully, receiving these 3 steps will inspire you to look more deeply into this incredible diet.
What makes calorie shifting the world’s best diet, and how much weight can you expect to lose following its principles? Well, if I were to pick just one of this diet’s many amazing attributes to call my favorite, it would be user-friendliness. It is so easy to stick with long-term. And that’s how you get results… by staying the course.
What, exactly are those results, anyway? Most people who follow this simple diet plan lose an average of 9 pounds every 11 days! This is serious weight loss that feels virtually effortless. Calorie shifting is so easy, and works so well, it really is the world’s best diet! Here are the 3 steps…
The Worlds Best Diet - 3 Steps That Make Calorie Shifting #1:
- Eat! This step will have you eating 4 meals a day for 11 straight days. You’ll never feel deprived. The food will be healthy, natural, and delicious. Most importantly for the purposes of rapid weight loss, however, it will get your metabolism burning white hot, not giving your body fat a chance! You will design an 11 day menu and eat according to it for that period of time. By day 11, your metabolism will begin to plateau. It will then be time for you to jump to the next step.
- Really eat! In fact, take 3 full days off of your diet and eat whatever the heck you want! You’re not going to pack the pounds back on because your metabolic rate will still be nice and high at this point, so indulge! What you’re really doing here is resetting your metabolism. This will make your next 11 days on the diet just as effective as the previous 11 were. When these 3 sinful days off come to an end, you’ll go to the next step.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you’ve lost all the weight you need and want to lose!
It really is that simple. This simplicity is truly what makes calorie shifting the world’s best diet! 11 days on a delicious, satisfying diet… followed by 3 days of pure, undisciplined indulgence… followed by 11 days on a delicious, satisfying diet, and so on! To lose nine pounds every 11 to 14 days this way is absolutely unbelievable, yet completely true!
