Ways to Boost Your Metabolism on Medifast
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on July 24th, 2010
I recently received a comment on my blog in which the reader asked for advice or tips on how “to boost my metabolism on Medifast so that I will lose weight quickly.” I had to respond that I actually believe that you don’t need to make this diet harder than it really is. What I mean by this is that it’s designed to work without your needing to over think it. With that said, there were some tips that I could offer for keeping your metabolism humming along. I will explain this more in the following article.
The Medifast Diet Already Does Rev Your Metabolism: Here’s the thing. This diet is designed to speed, rev, or enhance your metabolism because it puts your body in a state called ketosis. What this means is that because you’re eating more protein and fiber and are sort of depriving yourself of the amounts of calories and carbs that you are used to, your body begins to feast on fat. This greatly speeds up what might have happened eventually, but on a much smaller scale.
Now, they don’t require a whole lot from you to make sure that you get in ketosis. What you need to do is basically just to eat all of your meals (six in total,) use low glycemic foods in your main “lean and green” dish, and to keep any cheating that you do focused on salts and fats rather than on sweets. In short, you don’t want to do anything that would impede you from getting in ketosis and staying there.
People are sometimes tempted to skip meals thinking that they are saving carbs and calories. What they don’t understand is that your body needs support and fuel to get through ketosis. By depriving yourself of fuel, you’re only risking this whole process. If your body can’t support this process, it simply get won’t get in it. And, if you aren’t in ketosis, it will be much harder to boost your metabolism.
There’s often a lot of discussion and controversy on the weight loss forums as to whether you should exercise on medifast or whether it’s advisable to work out if you are in ketosis. I’m certainly no medical expert, but I usually chose the happy medium or the compromise in this situation. I don’t over do it. But, I do focus on moving more and on making what I am already going to do burn more calories. I move faster when I clean and do my chores. I wear weighted shoes when I power walk. I might use ankle weights when I’m moving about around the house.
But, I certainly don’t over extend myself or do anything that would tax my body as it is going through this process. It’s probably not a good idea to anything in excess, so I try not to. As I said, there is really no need to over think this. I know for a fact that skipping meals will take you out of ketosis. I’ve used ketone strips to prove this.
You’re given very easy to follow and specific instructions when you order the food. So long as you follow along relatively closely, your metabolism will be revved without your needing to do much else. If you want to do extra, you can gently work out. Any thing that burns a few extra calories can certainly help, but you don’t want to make your body do too much work that it can’t support what is happening.
Medifast Does Have Specific Products (The Momentum Line) To Boost Your Metabolism: If you still have doubts, there are products that are meant to take care of this job. Medifast has a line called “momentum” that contains some caffeine and some of the stimulants in green tea to do this. You can order an entire package of these foods or you can just order some of them. Personally, I do order the latte and the banana shakes individually because I like the way that they taste. But, I was losing weight at a very nice clip before I started doing this and I think the regular package more than does the job.
So, the products are there if this is something that you are interested in and these products are just as tasty as the others. But, I hope this articles has shown you that all of these products are designed to put your in ketosis and to bump up your metabolism.
Calorie Cycling Plan - Does Calorie Cycling Work?
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on July 24th, 2010
Mirror, mirror on the wallLooking in the mirror is my most immediate reason for wanting to shed pounds. That and the ever tightening belt and growing chin. I realize that things such as strokes, heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension are more important and I would definitely move them to number one if I developed any of them. The bottom line is that all of these are reasons to try something new like calorie cycling weight loss. Now before you go out and start looking for that brand new mountain bike, we are not talking cycling as in bicycle. We are talking about a weight loss program that is easier to follow than traditional diets, gets faster results, and avoids the pitfalls of plateauing. It is a simpler way to shed weight for those who have struggled with losing weight in the past and for those who are planning on shedding some pounds now.
Troglodyte DNA woes.
Our bodies are very stingy when it comes to their fat. Fat is the body’s safety net in case of famine or deprivation. You see, our bodies do not realize that we are living in times of comparative plenty, they still are operating under the DNA that we had as hunter-gathers which instructed the body to convert any excess food into fat and tuck it away in its fat cells. This made sense in caveman days because you could never be sure when you would be able to club your next mammoth and the body needed stored fat to survive those lean times. As a result our bodies will quickly adapt to a reduced calorie cycle. i.e. Low calorie dieting. The metabolism slows as the calories fall. This happens because our caveman DNA signals starvation to the hypothalamus.
What is calorie cycling Calorie cycling is a way to keep the body off guard. According to our DNA losing weight is a high crime against our bodies, so we need to keep that fact a secret. Since it takes the body a few days to catch on to our nefarious plan to reduce its fat stores, we have a chance to hide our plans by cycling our caloric intake with a calorie cycling plan. But does calorie cycling work
Does calorie cycling work better than other diets
I am not going to make the claim that it is superior to all other diet plans, but it definitely works better than all of the traditional low calorie programs. Remember rule one: The body adapts to patterns of behaviour. If you are repeating actions over and over to change your body in anyway, your body will adapt to that pattern and then plateau. That means it will stop changing in the way you want it to for a drawn out periods of time no matter how faithful you are at following your routine. This is really discouraging! But when we cycle through a set of mini-plans we can keep the body from adapting to our routine.
Every Other Day DietingIf you cycling your eating plan every other day or so you can keep your resting metabolism high, you will not become bored with a routine and you will lose weight rapidly. Some calorie cycling plans are better than others and I would encourage you to use the one that includes foods you’d normally think of as “no no’s” when on a diet. This makes the whole dieting process a lot more fun. When you know that you have only a day or two before you can cycle your routine.
A New You
Just imagine what you will look like 4 weeks from now while actually enjoying calorie cycling weight loss. If you keep that imagination before you, you will easily follow your calorie cycling weight loss plan to a new you.
To Cheat Or Not to Cheat? - A Cheat Your Way Thin Review
Posted by fitnessguru in Prescription Diet Drugs on July 24th, 2010
Ask any two or three people that have been through a traditional diet program what aspect they found most difficult to do and you can be certain that the complete avoidance from certain foods will rank top on that list. The adage absence makes the heart grow fonder holds true. In fact, the waterloo of many people on diet programs has been a prompt return to previous eating habits once the six or eight week program. Enter Cheat Your Way Thin from health and fitness guru Joel Marion. In contrast to traditional diet programs that focus on abstinence from high calorie foods, Cheat Your Way Thin is based on the premise that eating high calorie foods is a better proposition for weight loss. In this Cheat Your Way Thin Review, we will discuss the fundamental aspects of the program.
What is the program’s rationale?
The human body is ‘mechanical’ in many respects. For this reason, when you suddenly start to reduce your calorie intake, the body reacts by going into a ‘hunger’ mode. During this time, metabolism is reduced as the body seems to conserve energy. At the same time, the body begins to break down its fat reserves. In the short term, this looks good and outwardly, you will appear to have lost weight significantly. Only problem is at the end of the diet program, the body will start to ’stock up’ on the calories and you could gain your original weight.
The Cheat Your Way Thin program takes a different approach. What you do using when using this weight and fat loss technique is to designate a specific day when you relax the diet rules. During this time, you can take foods rich in calories such as ice cream, chocolate and cakes. This periodic intake of calorie-heavy foods triggers the body’s metabolism processes. Metabolism-inducing fat loss techniques are often touted as more effective than calorie-deprivation ones.
