The pH Miracle diet can be described as a program that restores balance in your body. The cells in the body are somewhat alkaline and by including alkaline foods in your diet you can support the natural functions of the body. Dr. Robert Young, creator of the pH miracle diet, emphasizes that you should avoid acidifying foods like dairy, wheat and meat. Dr. Young further states that in order to enjoy good health, people should become vegetarians.
However, if we look at the standard American diet, it is definitely not alkalizing and also not vegetarian. Most people’s diets consist of animal protein although Dr. Young says there is no necessity for these proteins in our daily diets.
People believe that in order to stay healthy and attain physical fitness, one should eat lots of protein. Throughout the ages people and more specific men have believed that in order to be strong and energetic, huge amounts of meat should be consumed. Scientists claimed in the early twentieth century that one needed meat in order to build strong bodies. Protein and sport are inextricably linked and it has had a direct impact on the consumption of meat during the last 100 years.

Keep in mind that on average a man and woman only need about 40 grams of protein per day, so it is not necessary to eat acidifying meat.
People often find that the most difficult part of switching to a vegetarian lifestyle is in changing their mental attitude. Eating meat and related products are really a habit that stems from beliefs formed thousands of years ago. Our bodies do not need meat. Dr. Young recommends that you should consume 70% alkaline food and 30% acid food when you follow the pH Miracle diet. This means that there is some flexibility in the amount of acid foods that you can eat. It is normal to be tempted to include animal protein in this 30% but if you rather choose slightly acidic foods like pasta, oats or eggs instead of the highly acidic meats, you will be able to restore the balances in your body at a faster rate.
It is entirely up to you whether you choose to become a vegetarian or not if you follow the pH Miracle diet, however don’t you owe it to your health to reduce or cut out altogether the amount of animal protein you consume every day?
